Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Finalize Divorce Agreement

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement after an eight-year legal battle, her lawyer has confirmed.

The couple, who married in 2014 and share six children, were once one of Hollywood’s most celebrated pairs, widely referred to as “Brangelina.”

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Subsequent legal proceedings revealed allegations that she accused Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and two of their children during a private jet flight that year.

A police investigation into the incident concluded without charges against Pitt, who has consistently denied the allegations.

Pitt’s legal team has not issued a public statement regarding the settlement.

Angelina Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, told People magazine that Jolie has been focusing on “finding peace and healing for their family” throughout the divorce process.

“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago,” Simon said. “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.

When the couple announced their separation in 2016, they released a joint statement pledging to handle the matter privately. Since then, both have largely avoided speaking publicly about their relationship. However, court documents from overlapping legal cases have revealed a contentious divorce process.

Jolie has accused Pitt of “waging a vindictive war,” while Pitt has alleged that Jolie attempted to damage his businesses deliberately.

One of their most prominent disputes centers on Château Miraval, a French vineyard they purchased together in 2008 for approximately €25 million (£21.3 million). The estate, where the couple later wed, has been at the heart of ongoing legal battles.

In 2022, Pitt alleged that Jolie sold her stake in the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler, a drinks industry mogul known for owning Stolichnaya vodka, without his consent. Pitt claimed the sale was an attempt to undermine his wine business tied to the estate. It remains unclear if the settlement resolves this particular dispute.

Allegations of abuse against Brad Pitt surfaced during court proceedings related to the couple’s divorce.

Angelina Jolie claimed in legal filings that Pitt was physically and emotionally abusive during a private plane journey in 2016, which the couple took with their children, then aged eight to 15. Her lawyers alleged that Pitt grabbed and pushed Jolie during an altercation and also assaulted two of their children during the incident.

Pitt has consistently denied the allegations. Despite the claims, he was awarded joint custody of the children in 2021 following a protracted legal battle over their living arrangements.

In June, the couple’s third-eldest child, Shiloh, filed a petition in a Los Angeles court to remove Pitt from her name, choosing to go by Shiloh Jolie. Additionally, two other children from the family have reportedly stopped using Pitt’s name.

At the height of their marriage, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were two of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. A Forbes report published shortly after their divorce announcement estimated their combined net worth at $400 million (£319 million).

The pair first met while filming the 2005 action-comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a collaboration that sparked widespread media attention and launched one of the industry’s most talked-about relationships.

The marriage was Pitt’s second, following his high-profile relationship with Friends star Jennifer Aniston. It was Jolie’s third, after her marriages to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

Jolie’s acclaimed filmography includes Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Changeling, and her Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted. She is currently starring in Maria, a biopic about the legendary opera singer Maria Callas.

Pitt, known for roles in Fight Club, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Twelve Monkeys, has been busy filming F1, an upcoming Formula One movie in which he stars as veteran driver Sonny Hayes. He was recently spotted at Silverstone during production.
