“Canada, Mexico & China Furious Over Trump’s Tariff Shake-Up!”

Hours after President Donald Trump signed executive orders imposing tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, the three nations hit back, vowing retaliation.

Canada and Mexico announced plans for their own counter-tariffs, escalating tensions among key trading partners. Meanwhile, China, while not specifying immediate tariffs, pledged to take legal action through the World Trade Organization and implement “necessary countermeasures.”

Trump cited fentanyl trafficking and illegal immigration as reasons for the tariffs, slapping a 25% duty on imports from Mexico and Canada—except for Canadian energy products, which face a 10% tariff. China also saw a 10% tariff for similar reasons.

Most tariffs take effect Tuesday, with the White House stating they will remain “until the crisis is alleviated” but offering no further details.

With Mexico, Canada, and China making up over 40% of U.S. imports, retaliatory tariffs could spike prices on food, electronics, and cars. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already outlined Canada’s response—matching Trump’s 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods. However, it’s unclear if that figure is in Canadian or U.S. dollars, with the latter equating to about $106 billion.

Hours after President Donald Trump signed executive orders imposing tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, all three nations hit back with strong opposition and threats of retaliation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced immediate counter-tariffs on $30 billion worth of U.S. goods starting Tuesday, with additional tariffs rolling out in three weeks. Targeted products include beer, wine, bourbon, fruits, vegetables, clothing, household appliances, and more. Trudeau urged Canadians to buy local and reconsider U.S. vacation plans, emphasizing the deep U.S.-Canada alliance and warning Americans of the economic consequences.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum also condemned the tariffs, calling Trump’s accusations of ties to criminal organizations “slander.” She announced the activation of “Plan B,” a yet-to-be-detailed economic countermeasure. Sheinbaum reaffirmed Mexico’s stance against fentanyl trafficking while demanding mutual respect and cooperation rather than subordination.

China, meanwhile, pledged to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization and implement countermeasures. Beijing called on the U.S. to correct its “mistakes” and warned that the tariffs could harm anti-narcotics cooperation. With ongoing U.S. blocks on WTO appellate judges, China may use the lawsuit to rally global support against Washington’s actions.

Trump defended the tariffs on Truth Social, citing illegal immigration and fentanyl as primary threats. However, data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection shows that most fentanyl seizures occur at the southern border, not the northern one. Both Mexico and China argue that the U.S. must address its own demand for the drug.

The tariffs mark a dramatic escalation in trade tensions, with Canada, Mexico, and China being the top three suppliers of U.S. imports. Trump’s move follows his campaign promise to impose sweeping tariffs, including a potential 60% tax on Chinese goods. Experts warn that another tariff war could impact not only the economy but also national security and global health initiatives.

With economic and diplomatic stakes high, the world braces for the fallout of Trump’s latest trade offensive.
