“Chaos at Magic Kingdom: Nearly Half of Rides Shut Down!”

The same night the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their Super Bowl win at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, nearly all rides at the park suddenly shut down, according to reports from local outlets WKMG News 6 and WOFL.

Social media posts described chaos, with guests stuck on rides and lights turning on mid-attraction. “My brother is at Disney World right now & everything just stopped,” wrote @MelissaElrod20 on X. “People are stuck in rides everywhere… it’s pandemonium in the streets.” A Reddit user added, “Several ride queues emptied out in front of me. [I] go to the next ride, and it’s being emptied.”

Hours before the park’s 10 p.m. closing time, the My Disney Experience app showed 18 out of 40 attractions as “temporarily closed,” with only five rides—including The Haunted Mansion and Tron Lightcycle / Run—still operating, per News 6.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the affected rides appeared to be back online with wait times listed on the My Disney Experience app.

As of Tuesday, only The Haunted Mansion and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh remained “temporarily closed” on the My Disney Experience app, though it’s unclear if their closures are linked to Monday night’s widespread ride shutdowns.

USA TODAY has reached out to Walt Disney World for comment, but the cause of the sudden ride closures remains unknown. While some online speculated a power outage, no official explanation has been provided.

Rides Shut Down During Disney After Hours

The shutdown occurred ahead of Magic Kingdom’s scheduled “Disney After Hours” event, a separately ticketed experience running from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., with tickets priced between $175 and $185 plus tax.

By the event’s start time, only three rides—Space Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and “It’s a Small World”—remained closed, according to WOFL. It’s unclear if the closures impacted the event.

Super Bowl Champs Visit Disney World

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles continued the Super Bowl tradition of celebrating at Magic Kingdom. In a video posted by Walt Disney World, quarterback Jalen Hurts was seen parading down Main Street, U.S.A. with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Whether the Eagles were affected by the shutdown remains unknown.

Are Rides Still Down?

As of Tuesday at 1:40 p.m. ET, two rides that had reopened Monday night were once again listed as “temporarily closed” on the My Disney Experience app. However, it remains unclear if these closures are linked to Monday night’s technical issues. The inside of Space Mountain in Disney World's Magic Kingdom on Nov. 16, 2024, during the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party event. It was one of the attractions listed as “Temporarily Closed” when over a dozen rides shut down Monday night while the park was open, according to reports.

  • Haunted Mansion (Liberty Square)
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Fantasyland)

Additionally, three other attractions were already closed for refurbishment before Monday’s shutdown:
