Millie Bobby Brown Claps Back at Critics Over Her Changing Accent!

Millie Bobby Brown is standing her ground amid backlash over her fluctuating accent.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, the Stranger Things star addressed criticism for switching between British and American accents, calling it “accent-gate.” She explained that her speech naturally shifts depending on her surroundings—especially since she’s married to American Jake Bongiovi. “When I’m around his family, I slip into an American accent. But the second I’m with my parents in England, I switch right back.”

Brown compared it to acting, saying, “You want me to play different characters but expect me not to adapt? What I hear is what I do—it’s part of who I am.”

This isn’t the first time she’s defended herself. In a past interview, she noted that growing up in the U.S. and working on American sets shaped her speech patterns. She also responded to online comments after an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying, “I don’t do it intentionally, and I’m sorry if it offends you, OK? But I’m trying my best!”

Beyond her accent, Brown also slammed social media scrutiny over her appearance. In a recent video, she called out critics for expecting her to remain the same as she was in Stranger Things season one. “I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow up with me,” she said, calling the constant judgment “bullying.”

She particularly criticized female writers who fuel negative narratives. “We always talk about uplifting young women, but when it comes down to it, tearing them down for clicks seems easier.”

Despite the noise, Brown remains unapologetic, embracing the changes that come with growing up in the spotlight.
