Richard Gere Slams Trump & Billionaire Rule: “Power and Money’s Dark Marriage Runs the USA!”

Hollywood icon Richard Gere, set to receive the International Goya Award in Granada, has issued a stark warning about the political climate in the U.S. amid Donald Trump’s return to power. Speaking at the Alhambra, Gere described a “dark marriage” between power and money, stating, “Billionaires are now in charge of America.”

At a press conference ahead of the 39th Goya Awards, the Pretty Woman star urged vigilance, warning that Trump’s administration is advancing “shockingly fast” and poses “a danger to all people on this planet.” He criticized the shutdown of global humanitarian programs, including USAID initiatives for HIV patients in Africa, calling it “deeply disturbing.”

Gere, accompanied by his wife, Spanish activist Alejandra Silva, expressed gratitude for his career but voiced grave concern over the future, urging people to “stand up” against these “very dark times.”

Richard Gere Warns of Global Risk Under Trump, Embraces Life in Spain Ahead of Goya Honor

Hollywood legend Richard Gere, set to receive the International Goya Award in Granada, has voiced concerns about the world’s future, stating, “The world is at risk” under Trump’s leadership—though he never mentioned the former president by name.

Now living in Spain, Gere praised its “great food, people, and culture” and expressed admiration for Antonio Banderas. He also reflected on his career, lamenting the challenges of independent filmmaking in an era where “big investments” dominate Hollywood.

The Spanish Film Academy recognized Gere’s “extraordinary contribution to cinema and social commitment” in awarding him the International Goya, making him only the fourth recipient in history. Over his five-decade career, he has starred in classics like Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman, and Days of Heaven, working with top directors and actresses.

Beyond acting, Gere’s humanitarian efforts span decades. He founded the Gere Foundation to support Tibetan autonomy, indigenous rights, and the homeless, aligning with his Buddhist beliefs. Now settled in Spain, he remains a global voice for justice while embracing his new home.
